For HAUS is inspired by the Bauhaus – an art school founded in 1919 in Germany. Their emphasis was on craft, while stressing the importance of “art into industry”. It was shaped by 19th and early 20th century trends like the Arts and Crafts movement, which sought to level the distinction between fine and applied arts and reunite creativity with manufacturing. This was my design entitled 'Unity'. I intended for it to represent many things, including the Southern Cross, waves, waka prow, long white clouds, migration and navigation, convergence of cultures, silver fern fronds, deep blue oceans and our clear New Zealand light.
